Cybersafety Week

It's CyberSafety Week & it was great to have Richard from FYI Education talk to our Year 7 & 8 students in a session called "I Agree (Just click yes) ". He showed students first-hand what can happen when contracts for programs they use are not read properly. He also talked about identity theft, the dangers of image sharing and cyber-bullying. This is just one of a number of activities occurring this week to help everyone stay safe online.

Vinnies Winter Sleepout

With the wild weather in Adelaide recently, spare a thought for around 2000 people in our city sleeping rough each night. A group of our students got a glimpse into the realities of homelessness by ‘sleeping rough’ in the Middle School Mall as part of Vinnies Winter Sleepout. Jayne from Vinnies SA dropped by to give them insight into the complex issues that people experiencing homelessness face & of the important work that Vinnies do. The students raised funds and donated care packages full of things that many of us would regard as essential items, like toothpaste, deodorant or tissues.

Eat your heart out Masterchef - Yr 12 Food & Hospitality

Some amazing culinary skills were on display by our Year 12 Food and Hospitality students as they undertook their Immanuel 'My Kitchen Rules' Challenge. The students worked in teams to produce a 5 course menu suitable to be served at Jarmers Restaurant, with the judges Peter Jarmer (Jarmers) and Simon Muir (Alliance Catering) making their assessments. Jarmers will use the menus produced by the students to plan the final menu for the end of year assessment activity at Jarmers Restaurant in September. I am sure you would agree that this incredible dessert by students Charlotte & Jess would not be out of place on Masterchef!

Student's Power Cup Guernsey design

Year 12 student Eytahnyia's stunning design has been selected for our 2017 Aboriginal Power Cup guernsey. Eytahnyia says her design reflects the fact that Immanuel College is on Kaurna land, and while our Aboriginal students are from many different language and cultural groups, "we can all come together on this land and become one." The design features the Kaurna word 'Taikurti' meaning ‘relatives’, and an image showing the contrast of the different faces of the emu (of the Kaurna people) and red kangaroo (of the Adelaide Plains). The Aboriginal Power Cup run by Port Adelaide Football Club & South Australian Aboriginal Sports Training Academy, involves over 400 students from around the state helping them connect with their Aboriginal culture, community and environment. The football carnival kicks off next week at Alberton Oval.
