Aboriginal students take centre stage at Adelaide Oval for Power Cup finale

What a special experience for our Aboriginal students who took part in the amazing cultural performance at Adelaide Oval Friday night as part of Port Adelaide Football Club Indigenous Round celebrations; the conclusion of the week's Aboriginal Power Cup program.

The Cup focuses on providing young people with the opportunity to engage in Aboriginal culture, healthy lifestyle choices, education, life skills, leadership and teamwork. The theme of this year’s Cup was “Creating your story” and students were invited to explore the importance of culture and identity for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, while learning more about their culture, the uniqueness of each language group and the role of education.

All Aboriginal Power Cup participants featured in a special cultural performance on Adelaide Oval in the lead up to the first bounce. The focus of the performance aligned with this year’s NAIDOC theme ‘Because of her, We Can’, honouring the invaluable contributions that Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander women have made and continue to make to our communities, our families, our rich history and our nation. The students spent many hours practising this dance and their performance on the night was spectacular.
