Music Scholarships

Applications for Immanuel College Music Scholarships for 2020 are now open.

Immanuel College has a highly regarded music program consisting of practical and theoretical studies, and numerous extra-curricular ensembles encompassing strings, woodwind, brass, percussion and voice.

Within the College curricular program, students undertake a diverse and relevant musical education through five key learning areas; Creating, Musicianship, Music Styles, Performance and Industry skills. And with an average of fifty public performances a year, the extra-curricular program extends the students’ experiences beyond their imaginations incorporating bands, orchestras, choirs and small ensembles in a diverse range of musical styles.

Immanuel College is pleased to be able to offer a number of Music Scholarships in 2020 for students who demonstrate outstanding music skills and/or potential in Violin, Viola, Cello, Double Bass, Brass, Woodwind, Percussion, Guitar, Piano or Voice.

There is no minimum performance standard for entry. Immanuel College is keen to provide an opportunity for students who may not have completed practical exams and who display great potential at a young age. Some theoretical background would be an advantage but is not a pre-requisite.

Value: Awarding of a scholarship provides a percentage reduction of tuition fees for the duration of the student’s enrolment, subject to satisfactory progress each year.

String Scholarships:

Scholarships will be offered in the area of STRINGS in 2020. Students need to demonstrate outstanding musical skills and/or potential on either VIOLIN, VIOLA, CELLO or DOUBLE BASS.

General Music Scholarships:

Applications should be submitted by 4.00pm, Friday 1 February 2019

Following the closing date, a short list will be compiled and selected applicants will then be contacted by phone to be allocated an audition time. Auditions will be held in the Immanuel College Music Centre early in Term One, 2019.

Applicants are encouraged to perform with their own accompanist if they have previously rehearsed the audition pieces.

If a regular accompanist is not available at the time of audition, one of the Immanuel Music staff will be available and can rehearse with the student on the day. Please indicate as soon as possible if this is required and be able to supply a copy of the accompaniment music well in advance of the audition time in the correct key and clearly indicating repeats etc.

If a student has never played with an accompanist, it is quite acceptable to perform unaccompanied.

Audition Requirements

Applicants selected for audition will be required to perform two contrasting pieces on their principal instrument. The pieces selected should reflect the range of the student’s abilities. Appropriate sight reading and aural skills may also be assessed at the audition.
