From the President
Immanuel College Old Scholars’ Association (ICOSA) was formed in 1927 to strengthen ties between past students and the Immanuel community.
The Association has a Committee, and various sub-committees, and also administers the JG & AR Schilling Scholarship fund, which provides financial assistance to pastoral theology students at Australian Lutheran College (formerly Luther Seminary), North Adelaide. The Committee meets monthly or as required. The Annual General Meeting is usually held in August each year, during Old Scholars Week.
Reunions are an important focus for ICOSA and are held each year, generally to celebrate 10 year anniversaries. For students who attended Immanuel at Novar Gardens campus, reunions are based around the Year 12 class and assume 5 year attendance. For instance reunions were held in 2010 for those who completed or would have completed their schooling in 1970, 1980, 1990 and 2000.
For students who attended Walkerville campus, reunions are based on their ‘Primary’ year, now known as Year 8. Other reunions or get-togethers include the ‘Welcome Back’ gathering of the previous years school leavers, the Seniors Luncheon (prior to each Old Scholars Week) and the Golden Era Dinner (open to all Immanuel Old Scholars who attended during the 1950’s). Over the years, sub-branches of ICOSA have formed in SA country areas and interstate, some of which hold an annual reunion.
ICOSA has, over a period of many years, assisted the College and its students through various academic scholarships. A grand piano was donated by ICOSA, to the College’s music department to mark our 75th year of operation, and more recently ICOSA has donated generously towards the Sports Centre.
The ICOSA Magazine (Community News, containing ‘ICOSA Tidings’) is an important communication link between ICOSA and current and former students of Immanuel College. It is sent out three times per year and contains news from Immanuel College, Immanuel Primary School and Immanuel Lutheran Church along with the ICOSA Tidings section.
